Student involved in an alleged sexual assault case appeared in court for first hearing (Update 4)

The Morrisville State student charged with an alleged sexual assault on campus pleaded not guilty to a class C felony in a Nov. 16 court appearance.

Azrien Brown had failed to appear in Madison County Court on two prior occasions. Brown waived indictment and will proceed to the trial phase, according to the Madison County Court. He is next scheduled to appear in court Feb. 9.

Brown was released the week after his initial arrest in September on a $25,000 bond and escorted out of his MSC residence by University Police. A class C felony carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
